The rocky outcrops and cliff ledges are a feature of this coin design, as it is the perfect place to find this animal. Sometimes described as the bush acrobat, the rock wallaby is often seen leaping and bounding around some of the most rugged areas of Australia. The Rock Wallaby is grey brown with yellow striped tail, white undersides, with yellow forearms and yellow feet. Similar to a kangaroo but smaller, they live in rock crevices and caves in semi arid country from South Australia to south west Queensland. The Rock Wallaby feeds in the cool of dusk and early morning on native grasses, plants and bark.
