2008 $1 Land Series ~ Wombat Al-Br Frosted Uncirculated - Left Handed
Coins & Banknotes
Wombats are
stout sturdy animals with stubby powerful legs making them ideal diggers and
earning them the nickname of the bulldozer of the bush. Wombats are great
diggers and can move most things in their path, including farmer's fences.
Female wombat pouches face backwards, so when they dig, their young are
protected from debris. As the coin design
indicates they generally make their homes in hollowed out logs leading into
intricate underground tunnel systems. These 2008 $1 coins have a highly detailed background
design, and a colour image pad printed directly onto the surface of the coin.
The background image features the wombat emerging from a sculpted hollow log. A
wombat named "Fatso" received international attention as a family pet in
"A Country Practice" an award-winning Australian soap opera/drama produced by JNP Films that aired from 1981 to 1993 on the Seven Network and in 1994 on
Channel Ten. The soapy was set in the fictional rural town of Wandin Valley in
New South Wales.
