The Commonwealth
Games is a sporting event held every four years. Australia is one of six
Commonwealth countries that have competed in every game since its inception
in 1930. In 2006 the Commonwealth Games were held in Melbourne (Victoria)
between 15th March and 26th March. This commemorative fifty cent coin
is one of a series of sixteen coins representing the various games competed
in at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games in 2006. The set was issued by the
Royal Australian Mint to honour the spirit of the Commonwealth Games.
