2009 $1 Frill-necked Lizard Al-Br Uncirculated @ lefthandedcoins.com
The 2009 $1 uncirculated
Frill-necked Lizard features an amazing little reptile that is an Australian icon
that made its numismatic debut with decimal currency on the original Australian
two-cent coin design in 1966. These 2009 $1 coins have a highly detailed background
design, and a colour image pad printed directly onto the surface of the coin.
The background image features the sculpted design of the sun with outward radiating circles
to represent the hot tropical climate from of its natural habitat. Chameleon-like
, the Frilled-Neck Lizard can also match the colour of its surroundings made evident by the
pad printing. When trying to attract a mate or when frightened the frilled ruff around its head
unfolds making the lizard appear much larger and it accelerates by running on its
hind legs — a great offensive mechanism against its many predators, but often
quite comical in action.
